Get Involved in Overdose Awareness Day 2019
With the number of drug-related deaths increasing year on year at the highest rate ever recorded, it is getting ever more important to raise awareness of the risks of overdose, and what can be done to reduce harm.
International Overdose Awareness Day takes place on 31st August. The day aims to raise awareness of overdosing and reduce the stigma of a drug-related death, as well as share information and advice: teaching people how to help reduce the harm caused by overdoses.
It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have died or had a permanent injury as a result of drug overdose. After all, drug related deaths are wholly preventable.
There are many ways you and/or your organisation can get involved on the day. Some simple ways to take part are:
Follow Overdose Day on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and post about International Overdose Awareness Day using the hashtags #OverdoseAware #EndOverdose
If you have lost a friend or relative to an overdose, commemorate them on the Overdose Day website: https://www.overdoseday.com/tributes-a/post-a-tribute/
Host an event to raise awareness and/or funds for Overdose Day.
Start a discussion about evidence-based harm reduction policy.
More information about getting involved can be found on the Overdose Day website.
